At this moment, Greece should prioritize the Middle East geopolitically, rather than Ukraine. It must support the insurgency of Alawites, Kurds, Shiites, and Sunnis that has ignited in Latakia.
Turkey is sending troops to assist the HTS regime in suppressing the resistance.
And since the rotten political regime will not be interested, assistance must be provided through private organizations and networks.
Weapons, ammunition, food, money, and information about the movement of Turkish troops must be sent, along with diplomatic recognition, political support; communication assistance should be given to the Alawite rebels so that their narrative can be heard in Greek society.
Even if the Alewites are defeated, they should be given the possibility of establishing an exiled government in Greece, from where they could coordinate the struggle for the defeat of neo-Ottomanism in Syria.
Greece's strategic interest in the Middle East is to overthrow the HTS, to prevent the creation of a caliphate in Syria, and to counter neo-Ottoman expansionism.
As a minimum return for Greek support of the Alawite insurgency, we should demand the permanent cession of Latakia as a naval base for Greece.
If, despite this, the presence of Greek troops in Ukraine is prioritized, an agreement should be signed that includes clauses and preconditions, so that the people know what risks they are undertaking.
A written agreement should include the preemptive cession of territories from Odessa to Mariupol and their incorporation into Greek territorial sovereignty, as a minimum compensation for the presence of peacekeeping troops in this theater of war.
Every effort to funnel Greece's meager human and material resources into various military fronts should be accompanied by preemptive compensation and strict clauses.
Some people complain by referencing the difficult social situation we are experiencing in order to devalue every effort of Greek expansionism; today's Greece is in a much better position than during the years of the Heroic Struggles for Independence when our ancestors fought as an army of irregulars.
Every era entails risks and opportunities. Today we are presented with a unique opportunity to expand into the Middle East and the Black Sea.
